Warrant against Dhoni for posing in ‘Vishnu avatar’

M_Id_422310_MS_DhoniHYDERABAD: A local court in Andhra Pradesh issued an arrest warrant against Indian team Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. The petition was filed in the court in February this year by local activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Gopal Rao and Shyam Sundar who claim that Dhoni was portrayed as Hindu god Vishnu on the cover of a business magazine with a subtitle “God of Big Deals”.

The court issued the arrest warrant as Dhoni did not appear in the court despite three summons served in the past. It directed police to present Dhoni in the court on July 16. The summons issued by the court to Dhoni on three occasions was returned. The court, which took up the hearing Tuesday, issued the arrest warrant. The case was filed after; ‘Business Today’ in its April 2013 edition had carried the picture. Dhoni was portrayed as Hindu god Vishnu with a subtitle “God of Big Deals” and holding products of several companies including a shoe in his hand.

Dhoni is currently touring with the Indian squad in England, where the team will play five test matches, five one-day and one T-20 international. Similar petitions were filed against Dhoni such as Delhi, Pune and other cities.
