F1: Force India could catch Red Bull but…..

Despite the fact that it is not difficult to trust that Force India could pursue down Red Bull, Otmar Szafnauer surrenders that the main way they can do that is by out-building up the title winning group. Five races into this title and Force India are only 19 points behind Red Bull Racing.

It has been an incredible start to the season for the Silverstone-based group, who have secured a twofold focuses pull in each of the five races.

They had their best demonstrating last time out in Spain where Sergio Perez was fourth to Esteban Ocon’s P5. While Force India are making the most of their Sunday evening, the same can’t be said of Red Bull who have lingering behind Mercedes and Ferrari.

In any case, while Force India say it is not outlandish for them to pursue down third place, it won’t be a simple undertaking.

“We’re 19 points behind them now with a quarter of the season gone,” Force India’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer said. “There’s three quarters of the season to go.

“19 points isn’t insurmountable so it’s still an objective that is achievable, but in order for us to achieve that we need more pace.

“They’re faster than us, they’re going to beat us, it’s that simple.

“So if we can improve the pace of the car and develop at a quicker rate than Red Bull, the fact that we’re only 19 points behind could allow us to achieve.

“But I don’t know if that will happen.

“If everything stays the same, relative performance, they will beat us.”
