Top seed Rafael Nadal, who was eliminated in the second round of the Wimbledon 2015, makes the winning start against his country men Fernando Verdasco at Hamburg Open on Tuesday. After losing first set he fought back to claim 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Verdasco.
The former no one was playing his first match since losing to Dustin Brown in the second round of Wimbledon. The Spaniard, 29, has fallen to 10th in the world rankings following injury and poor form.
“It’s a very important victory. For my mentality, it is important to finish the match better than how I started. To be able to make that change during the match was a very positive thing to me. I’m just happy [with] the way I came back.”
Rafael Nadal made the winning start in the single, after losing doubles match to Australian Open champions Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolleli, 6-4, 6-2 with the fellow Mallorcan Jaume Munar.
