World No 1 Novak Djokovic withdraws from Madrid Open

According to the Madrid news, the world No. 1 and former champion Novak Djokovic has withdrawn his name from the upcoming Madrid Open for the second time in a row. The defending champion of the Rome Master wants some rest before the tournament.

As stated on the Madrid official site, “The Serb announced that … he will take time out to rest before continuing with his planned calendar at the Rome and Roland Garros tournaments.”

Djokovic has been in commanding form this year. He had won Australian open and three grand slams with the record of 30-2 winning streak.

He has spent 144 weeks at world no.1 in the ATP ranking and placed sixth, while Roger Federer is at first place with 302 weeks at world no.1.
