Both The World No. 1 (Djokovic) and No. 2 (Federer) made it through into the final of US Open after winning their respective semifinal matches here on Saturday.

THE SEMI-FINAL

Federer needed to go a bit hard as he was confronting World No. 5 and 2015 French Open Winner Stan Wawrinka in the Semi-Final of US Open. However, Federer transcended him by beating him 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 and made his place in the Finals.

For Djokovic it was like child’s play as he beats M. Cilic 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in the Semi Final of US Open on Saturday.

After their individual wins the court is set for the two Rivalries for the defining moment on Sunday. The world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and 17-time Grand Slam men’s singles champion Roger Federer will fight inside Arthur Ashe Stadium to decide the final major of the year.

THE HISTORY OF TWO RIVALRIES

Djokovic and Federer have met 41 times in their careers, starting in 2006 when the pair first squared off on the clay of Monte Carlo. In total, the pair has played 16 finals and another 21 semifinals against one another.

They have also met 13 times in Grand Slams with Djokovic leading that rung head-to-head by 7-6.  The pair has contested 120 sets in total and exactly half of which have been decided by a score of 6-4, 7-5 or 7-6.

DJOKOVIC AND FEDERER’S HISTORY AT US OPEN

2007 Final: “Federer beats Djokovic, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4”

Federer won the fourth consecutive US Open championships in the second-longest straight-sets men’s final in recorded US Open history.

2008 Semifinal: “Federer beats Djokovic, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2”

Federer won a four-set battle with third-ranked Djokovic and won the title afterward by beating Andy Murray 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 and booked him for fifth consecutive US Open Title.

2009 Semifinal: “Federer beats Djokovic, 7-6, 7-5, 7-5”

Federer washed his hand over Djokovic in Semi Final of 2009 US Open and kept his bid open for 6th consecutive win. He was later lost to Juan Martín del Potro in the final, 3–6, 7–6(7–5), 4–6, 7–6(7–4), 6–2 and thus ended his winning streak.

2010 Semifinal: “Djokovic beats Federer, 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5”

Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the semifinal but later lost the Title 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 2-6 to Nadal.

2011 Semifinal: “Djokovic beats Federer, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5”

A year after losing in his first US Open final to Nadal, Djokovic returned to the final with another memorable victory. He first sent Roger home in semifinal and later answered Nadal for previous year defeat by packing him 6–2, 6–4, 6–7(3–7), 6–1 and clinching the title.
