After rain delayed the U.S. Open men’s championship final match by more than three hours, Djokovic claim his third Grand Slam title of the year as he earned 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium over world No.2 Roger Federer.

No. 1 Novak Djokovic won the first set by 6-4 and ends Federer’s winning streak of 28 straight sets since losing to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July. But Federer came back and take the second set 7–5. In the third set, Federer had several break point opportunities but Djokovic served out the set at 6–4. In the fourth Federer rallied to make it 5–4 after Djokovic pulled away set and served for the match at 5–2 in the final set but in the end World No. 1 closed out the match 6–4 in the final set.

This was the fourth time the two meet in the finals of a Grand Slam, with Djokovic winning two finals at Wimbledon while Federer taking the 2007 US Open Grand Slam final.

Federer has won the US open five times in total but fails to claim the US Open since 2008. Djokovic has only won once at the US Open, back in 2011. Djokovic won his third Grand Slam title of the year after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He lost in the finals of the French Open to S. Wawrinka.
