Maria Sharapova had been pulled out of the prestigious final Grand Slam of the Year ‘The US Open’ because of a Leg injury. The five-time Grand Slam winner was due to play against Australian world number 37 Daria Gavrilova on Monday in New York.

The news of her withdrawal was announced by The U.S. Tennis Association via a press release after Sharapova herself confirmed the same on her Facebook page.

Sharapova who is ranked third in the world and seeded second at the US open, couldn’t be able to register her appearance in any tournament since Wimbledon.

Sharapova said earlier this month that she sustained the injury during training after Wimbledon that forced her to withdraw from lead-up tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati.

With her withdrawal it is bit easy for the world number one Sarena Williams to call her dominance for the Title.

This is going to be the third time when Sharapova is to miss the Grand Slam after she missed it in year 2008 and 2013.

Sharapova said on her Facebook page on the eve of the event, “Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open. I have done everything possible to be ready but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong”.
