Sabine Lisicki set a world record for the most number of aces in singles match in the second-round of AEGON CLASSIC BIRMINGHAM.

She fires 27 aces in the win over Belinda Bencic at the Aegon Classic. The 2011 Birmingham champion hit 16 in the first set and 11 in the second. Lisicki passed the mark of 24 aces, held jointly by American Serena Williams and Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi.

The German said, “It’s obviously a good weapon to have on grass” after her 6-1 7-6 (7-4) win over her Swiss opponent in Birmingham.

“It’s nice to have another record!” Lisicki said “It’s obviously a good weapon to have on grass. And I love playing on grass, so it’s nice to be back at the Aegon Classic Birmingham.”

“It’s always special to come back to a tournament you’ve won before, but it’s not only that. All the memories I have playing in England, winning here and doing so well at Wimbledon – it’s all so nice.”

She will now play Magdaléna Rybáriková in the third round.
