The ten members of South Africa A, who had been admitted to Hospital due to food poisoning are all discharged and confirmed fit to play against Australia.

The match between the two teams  which is to take place on Tuesday has been delayed and now will be played on Wednesday as South African players demanded an extra day for rest.

As a result, the final group match between India A and South Africa A has also been pushed by one day, to Thursday. But the final will take place on schedule time i.e. on Friday.

Half the side of South African A team got ill prior to South Africa A’s game against India A on Sunday. Quinton de Kock, who had just flown into Chennai on Saturday evening, scored a lumpy century, but he too suffered from cramps and had to be withdrawn from the field in the 32nd over of the second innings. India A player Mandeep Singh had to pitch in as a substitute fielder after de Kock had to leave the field.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) also issued a press release, saying, “”With half of the squad going down ill overnight South Africa was forced to play (against India A today) an ill-balanced starting XI that had only four frontline bowlers with the likes of Dean Elgar and Khaya Zondo to make up the rest of the overs,”

“Reeza Hendricks, Zondo and Mthokozisi Shezi were all on the sick list but had to play because there was nobody else available but all three had to be hospitalised during the course of the match. The same applied to De Kock who was hospitalised after the match,” the release said.

Things were so awful that South Africa A’s video analyst Hendrikus Coertzen and India A’s Mandeep Singh had to be roped in as substitute fielders. South Africa A’s extras for the game included Wayne Parnell, Beuran Hendricks, Cameron Delport, Cody Chetty and Keshav Maharaj, but only Hendricks and Maharaj came out as substitute fielders.
