It’s a historic moment for Costa Rica after they smashed Greece in tie breakers to let it through in quarterfinals for the first time. After putting a great skill and efforts, both teams levelled at 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes.
Bryan Ruiz of Costa Rica scored a goal at 52th minute to give Costa Rica 1-0 lead over Greece but the team got a huge dent after dismissal of Ó. Duarte just 14 minutes after the strike. Costa Rica is now forced to defend in numbers and made some important blocks. Sokratis drilled an equalizer at 90+1 and set the game on extra time. The 10 man Costa Rica manage to take the game to Penalty shoot outs after 1-1 draw at end of 120 minutes.
It seems to be the day for Costa Rica who made it to Penalties with 10 players. The Result favours Costa Rica after they scored consecutive 5 goals in the tie breakers and a great show down by Navas (Goalkeeper costa Rica) who saved the 4th one for Costa Rica. Costa Rica entered quarter finals for the very first time in its history with 1-1(full time) score and 5-3 (Penalties) in the tie breakers.
Umana in celebrations of the victory said “Last night, I dreamt, this, it seems untrue. I was relaxed because I dreamed it. I dreamed it but I didn’t tell anyone. I felt very confident.”
“This is for my family. It’s for the colleagues who got injured before coming here. They’re not with us, but they gave us a hand on the pitch.”
