FIFA World Cup 2014 round of 16 Argentina 1-0 Switzerland at Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo

Argentina vs Switzerland

Angel Di Maria’s goal in the dying movement of the game eliminates Switzerland out of the World Cup. In the 118th minute Messi rushed in the Swiss box and stroked a pass to Di Maria, who takes the sweetly and placed into the bottom-left corner.

But that was not an easy task for the Alex Sabello’s side. Switzerland got easy chances but unable to convert it in the first half of the game. Switzerland got a huge chance to equalise from Shaqiri’s brilliant cross which Dzemaili was unable to put in the net in the additional time of extra time. Match ended with Argentina 1-0 Switzerland.

After been nominated man of the match for the 4th time Messi said “I don’t know whether I deserved it or not. What’s important is that we went through, Like everybody I was very nervous because we couldn’t score. We suffered, suffered and suffered. We started to think it wasn’t going to happen. We knew if we made a single mistake we would have been going home. Big teams have gone that nobody expected to be gone and others that nobody thought would be here still are. There are no easy opponents in the World Cup. We didn’t want it to go to penalties and wanted to finish it off. When I first got the ball I thought about taking the chance and shooting myself but then I saw Ángel and made the pass.’’

I usually criticise myself sometimes before you but today the team played a wonderful match,” Argentina coach Alex Sabello said. “We were clearly superior in the second half. We played a wonderful match against a very hard team. You don’t just win because of winning – you need a good strategy.”
