FIFA Word Cup 2014 : Brazil eliminates Chile, through to quarterfinals

First match of round of 16 Brazil send Chile home in penalties shootout. Match was played at Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte. The two sides both scored in the first half, but cannot be seperated after 120 minutes of soccer and required a penalty shootout to decide who will go to the next round.

David luiz strikes first for Brazil early in the first half in the 18 minute from a Neymar’s delivery from the left corner that was his first goal for Brazil. But Alexis Senchez levelled it with a cool finish into the bottom left corner in the 34th minute. After half time score was 1-1. Hulks’s goal was disallowed by the English refree , Howard Webb in the 55th minute.

Both the teams tried their best in the second half but couldn’t find a path to pass each other. So penalty shootout was required to separate both the sides.

Julio Cesar saved Chile’s first two spot kicks and although Willian and Hulk missed for Brazil. Mauricio Pinilla,  Alexis Sánchez missed spot kicks and Jara hit the post with Chile’s last kick to send Brazil through to quarterfinals.

Final score :  Brazil 1 Chile 1 (Brazil win 3-2 on penalties)

Brazil: Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Marcelo, Luiz Gustavo, Fernandinho(sub:Ramies), Oscar; Neymar, Hulk, Fred(sub:Jo).

Chile: Bravo, Silva, Medel, Jara, Isla, Aranguiz, Diaz, Mena; Vidal(sub:Pinilla), Sanchez, Vargas(sub:Gutierrez).
