Gameiro joined Atletico Madrid in the last summer for £35million but he has not been able to prove the investment wealthy for the Spanish club and they could sell him in the summer transfer window.

The Frenchman has struggled since joining from Sevilla where he won three successive Europa League titles. He has only scored 11 goals in his 33 appearances for the Spanish side including five minute hat-trick on Saturday which was the fastest in La Liga for 22 years..

With this hat-trick Gameiro is now level on goals with his counterpart, Antoine Griezmann, and already had more than Fernando Torres’ five league goals before it.

Tottenham on the other hand want a back up striker and competition for their top class player Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick of his own on Sunday against Fulham in the FA Cup.

With Vincent Janssen struggling to find his feet in the club, a backup striker like Gameiro is on radar for Mauricio Pochettino ‘s summer signing.

Janssen has looked out of place and short on confidence whenever he has appeared for Spurs, picking up most of his goals for the side from the penalty spot.

With Heung-Min Son often playing through the middle in Kane’s absence instead of Janssen, perhaps the option of signing Gameiro would appeal to Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.
