Steve Smith named ODI captain against England

Australia selected Smith as ODI captain & a refreshed squad against England series.

Australia budding cricketer Steve Smith named captain of Australian team against England for the ODIs. A refreshed squad has been selected for One-Day internationals against England, with all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, spinner Ashton Agar and batsman Joe Burns set to make debuts.

Burns who continuously batting well for Australia A in a triangular series in India, last week he scored 154 runs off 131 balls in Chennai against India A where he impressed the selectors by his performance. Earlier brad Haddin and test team captain Michael Clarke already announced their retirement from ODI after the World Cup which was held in March this year.

“The squad we have selected has a few fresh faces in it as well as some experienced players that will provide us with the right balance,” said selectors’ chairman Rod Marsh.

Burns proved he was “a very capable young batsman who has experience opening”, said Marsh.

Whereas Stoinis an all-rounder will replace another all-rounder in the team James Faulkner who was convicted of drink-driving case in England last month and that’s why not picked for the ashes 2015 in England.

Australia first will play a single T20 against Ireland and England respectively on 27 August and 31 August and then they will play five ODIs against England starting 3 September. Leg-spinner Cameron Boyce has been included for selection for the T20 International game.

“The squad we have selected has a few fresh faces in it as well as some experienced players that will provide us with the right balance,” said Marsh.
