Rohit Sharma again entered record books on Thursday by slamming his second one-day double hundred,264 runs off 151 balls and this time against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His first one came against Australia last year in Bangalore where he scored 209 off 158 balls. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are the other two batsmen to score double hundreds.

Rohit also became the only player in world cricket to score two double hundreds. Rohit also broke Shikhar Dhawan’s List A record score of 248 scored against South Africa A in Pretoria last year.

Fellow and former cricketers took to Twitter to salute the batsman who made his comeback from injury after almost three months. When Rohit overtook Virender Sehwag’s 219 to become the highest scorer in ODI history, Dhoni predicted that he would breach the 250-run mark as well.

Rohit said after the match, “Once I got to 50, I had to convert it into a big score. Normally, I have an idea of the team total as it helps you to build an innings. We know that under lights with dew factor into consideration, 350 is not a safe score anymore at the Eden Gardens.”

“It’s been a great venue for me as I got my hundred on Test debut at this venue. The crowd were cheering me right through.” he added.

Brief scores:

India 404 for 5 in 50 overs (Rohit Sharma 264, Virat Kohli 66; Angelo Mathews 2 for 44) beat   Sri Lanka 251 in 40 overs (Angelo Mathews 75, Lahiru Thirimanne 59; Dhawal Kulkarni 4 for 34) by 153 runs.
