Dhaka: South Africa’s 20- year bowler Kagiso Rabada became the second bowler to claim a hat- trick on a debut in a rain hit first One Day match against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla Stadium on Friday.

He is also the first South African bowler to take six wickets on debut and only the second South African bowler to claim five wickets in his 1st ODI. Last year, Bangladesh left arm spinner Taijul Islam claim a hat-trick on his ODI debut at the same venue (Shere Bangla Stadium).

Hat-trick balls

  • Bowled Tamim Iqbal in the third ball of his second over.
  • Litton Das caught at midwicket of his fourth ball.
  • Lbw Mahmudullah on his fifth and final ball to achieve the feat.

Rabada finished his spell with 6-16, the best ever bowling figures by a debutant, biting the record of West Indie’s player Fidel Edwards, who took 6-22 against Zimbabwe in 2003. The other South African to achieve this feat is Allan Doland who took 5-29 against India at Kolkata in 1991.

Rabada made his T20 international debut for South Africa against Australia on 5 November 2014.

Brief scores:

Bangladesh: 160 (Hasan 48; Rabada 6/16)
