The BCCI today appointed former India captain and legend Rahul Dravid as India ‘A’ teams coach as well as the coach of India U-19 teams. The decision was taken by the BCCI high profile advisory committee on Sunday. Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary, announced yesterday that the former Indian captain had agreed to coach the India A and India U-19 teams.

Rahul Dravid is a former Indian cricketer and captain, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. Dravid, who played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and one T20 match. In a test he scored 13,288 runs with a batting average of 52.31 becomes the fourth-highest run scorer in Test cricket, after Sachin TendulkarRicky Ponting and Jacques Kallis, and is only the second Indian cricketer, after Tendulkar to score 10,000 runs both in Tests and in ODIs.

According to Thakur, however Dravid has shown keen interest for grooming the players of u-19 team because according to him they are the future of our Indian cricket team. Earlier he had rejected the proposal to part of the advisory committee and expressed his desire to work closely with next generation of Indian cricketers.

“The under 19 cricket team world cup is scheduled for next year and the A team would be touring various countries in the coming months,” Anurag Thakur said.

Dravid is also the part of his IPL team Rajasthan Royals , his mentoring experience will surely benefit the India ‘A’ and U-19 cricket team said by Monty Desai who has worked with Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. “Dravid creates a healthy environment. He goes out of his way to help people facing challenges and talks to them, helps them find a solution,” said Desai.

Former Indian captain, Dilip Vengsarkar, said he was happy with the decision of the BCCI asking Dravid to take care of the upcoming Indian cricketers.
