Saina Nehwal is an Indian badminton player and is the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics. With the latest rankings released by the game’s international governing body she climbed to the top spot of women’s badminton players.

Clinging on to this title she etched her name in Indian history to become first women player to hold this position. Saina attains this position from China’s Li Xuerui, who slipped to third with Spain’s Carolina Marin claiming the second position.

Saina also becomes second Indian overall to be world number one after Prakash Padukone. Prior to the confirmation of the top spot he told repoters, “Everybody dreams of winning the Olympics or the World Championships. I’m one of them. But I want to be relaxed, enjoy my game.
