Lee Chong Wei claims the US Open after returning from doping ban

Lee Chong Wei returns with the title win after an eight-months doping ban.

The 32-year old, Lee Chong Wei beat Denmark ‘s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus by 22-20, 21-12 in Brentwood, New York. The last title he won was 2014 Japan Open in which he defeated Hu Yun of Chin by 21-14,21-12.

“I’m happy with my performance in the US Open even though this is my (first) individual tournament after nine months. Thank you fans and supporters, I love you all,” Lee posted on his Facebook page.

Former world number one had returned to the court a month ago after his urine sample showed traces of banned substance dexamethasone at the World Championships in August 2014.

His BWF world ranking is also affected by the doping charge, which shift him to 180th position. But this win will encourage him of making an impression at the world championships in August.

In November 2014, Badminton World Federation confirmed the temporarily suspension of lee for anti-doping regulation violation.

But in April 2015, panel was convinced that Lee had unintentionally taken the banned substance and has allowed him to resume his career by 1 May 2015.
