Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won the final of the $50,000 Canada Open Grand Prix tournament

Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Indian duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa crushed the top-seeded Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in the last standoff which went on for 35 minutes..
The first game was a close contest as both the teams managed to keep the score at 19-19. It was then the Indian duo converted the lone game point opportunity to finish the round by 21-19.
The Indians dominated the second game by gathering an early lead of 5-0 before going from 10-6 to 15-6 up. However, Muskens and Piek fought back to win nine straight points and tie the game at 15-15.
But Jwala and Ashwini did not loose their confidence and won 6 of the next 7 points to secure the title by 21-16. This was Jwala and Ashwini’s first title since their reunion after the 2012 London Olympics.
