India’s Commonwealth Games silver-medallist duo Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa progressed into finals of the Canada Open Grand Prix tournament. The duo crushed Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto of Japan by 21-17, 21-16 in the semi-finals that lasted just half-an-hour.

In the first game the score was leveled at 14-14 then the Indian duo of Jwala and Ashwini took four straight points to surge ahead at 18-14. The four consecutive points left the Japanese duo defenseless and the Indian girls secured the first game by 21-17.

In the second game, the Indian girls seemed to be in control as they did not permit their opponents to settle down and continued gathering points. Jwala and Ashwini dominated the second game and eventually clinched it 21-16 and with it the match.

Jwala and Ashwini will go against the top seeded Dutch pair of Selena Piek and Eefje Muskens in the finals of the $50,000 Canada Open Grand Prix tournament.
